RYI STUDENT BLOG

During my second year of B.A studies at RYI, I had the opportunity to take Beginner’s Sanskrit language courses. This subject excited me because I fondly remembered taking Sanskrit classes during my fourth grade in elementary school. I still recall those lessons as being noteworthy experiences at the time. However, since I had only taken Sanskrit for a brief period, I had easily forgotten everything over these many years. My RYI Beginner’s Sanskrit group was comprised of students from all over the world. Our native languages varied from Nepalese, English, German, Bengali, Chinese, Bhutanese, Hindi, Italian and more. In the first few weeks of the class, my background in Nepali language played a significant role in helping me familiarize myself with Sanskrit scripts and vocabularies. Kathmandu is the capital city and the largest city of Nepal with a population of 1.5 million. It is my first time here in Kathmandu, Nepal and what brought me here is my decision to study Buddhist philosophy. I feel very much blessed to be here and especially to be able to study in this holy land. I couldn’t ask for a better condition.   I started my course in Rangjung Yeshe Institute in august last year, 2018. I am very much satisfied with all the classes I take. I will definitely learn a lot and most importantly become a better human being. I am rather taken aback by how well the teachers and the students are here. Being a school of Buddhist studies, I realised how different it is from the other institutes or universities. Anyone I met has been very kind and helpful all this time.
